War Horse
A Touching, Gripping Tale of a Boy and his Horse.
Set in the backdrop of WW I, War Horse is the latest offering from Steven Spielberg. The movie is based upon a best selling novel written by Michael Morpugo in 1982.
The story of a young boy and his beloved horse, set in WW I, is simple yet elegant melodrama that brings tears to the eyes of the audience. In a strange manner, the relationship, the love and the bonding between a lad and his horse reminds one of ET. It’s been a long time coming, but there has not been such a touching story of a relationship between a boy and his companion since ET.

Albert (Jeremy Irvine) is a young, strapping lad living in early 20th century in English countryside with his father Ted (Peter Mulian) and mother.
The family is making ends meet living on an impoverished farm with the head of the family being a drunkard. Ted buys a colt at an auction and brings it home. Mother (Emma Watson) is socked at this purchase as she does not like the idea of family savings being spent on a horse. Albert likes the horse though, naming him Joey, and soon the boy forms a strong bond with the young horse. Albert teaches a lot of tricks to Joey with the scenes where Albert rides on Joey through lush green fields making up highlights of the film. The relationship between Joey and Albert has been the highlight of the film and at times makes audience cry shamelessly.
Soon, WW I breaks out, and Ted uses this opportunity to sell the horse to a cavalry officer and the hose is led to blood soaked battlefields of WW I.
Joey, who is not accustomed to the war and the atmosphere, finds himself unable to cope with the rigors of life as he is required to perform brutal labor.
He is seen destined to die an ignoble death on the war front.
Meanwhile Albert finds himself thrust upon the war and after some grueling war scenes, Albert finds Joey. In the final scene of the movie, Albert is shown riding back home on Joey. When they reach the farm, Albert embraces his mother and father. The movie is indeed gripping and touching and brings to fore the qualities of Steven Spielberg as a director. He is no stranger to war scenes as we have already witnessed in Saving Private Ryan, and the way he has chosen to focus upon strong bonding between a boy and his horse makes the film makes the film much more intense.
All in all, a must see movie for all sorts of movie buffs. Log on to internet if you missed out to see the movie in theaters as you can watch it for free on Movie2k. This is one site that allows you to watch movies free online.
